WELL-BEING Services
Welcome!
This website provides services dedicated to increasing well-being from a mind-body or holistic perspective. Well-being relates to our perception of ourselves, others, the world around us, and life in general as much it does to external factors. The aspect of well-being that deals with perception and perspective as well as our concept of self is psychological well-being.
Woven into programs of service is an intent for addressing our universal as well as unique struggle with limitation and adaptation to sudden and/or major change. Services focus on the impact that chronic or life limiting illness and death & dying have on us. Patients, caregivers, and loved ones experience more than their fair share of change while facing these inevitable experiences. Anyone dealing with major change or trauma associated with non-healthcare related events can benefit from these provided services as well.
Confronting serious health related matters, either directly or indirectly, is often overwhelming. Sickness is very isolating, invalidating, and sometimes even shaming. Understanding ourselves better, finding meaning in life to counterbalance crisis, suffering, and distress, and an experienced sense of extension to ‘something more’, are crucial to increasing well-being and our overall quality of life during times when we feel circumstances are beyond our control. These core principles are introduced in many of the interventions provided.
Psychological well-being is as important (if not more so) than other aspects of our well-being; i.e. those commonly associated with the mind-body connection. Eating a proper balanced diet, getting enough rest and exercise, positive thinking, and meditative practices are crucial aspects. However, from a psychological emphasis, having a felt sense of belonging, experiencing meaning, having a strong self-identity, and holding a balanced perspective are just as essential to our well-being.
Well-Being Services address how we react and/or respond to life crises and how we adapt to and deal with major change in order to be comfortable with a ‘new normal’. Clients receive emotional support in a nurturing/validating environment here. They gain self-awareness and insight into how to deal with personal struggles. They become self-empowered and obtain practical knowledge. Resources and information are available on advance care planning, dealing with caregiving demands, being a strong patient advocate, and navigating the healthcare system, among many other topics.
